ir. Marco Vermeulen

Marco Vermeulen is trained as an architect and urban planner at Eindhoven University of Technology and founded his own design and research firm in Rotterdam in 1999. As a versatile generalist, he seeks synergy between challenges such as sustainable energy, circular economy, climate adaptation, regional identity, and food production. His studio is often involved in projects that connect climate change with spatial quality and architecture. He integrates contemporary issues at various scales into spatial design or an inspiring vision for the future. As a critical team player, Marco quickly gets to the core of a project, identifies opportunities, and efficiently guides his team. He was the chief curator of the Landscape Biennale 2021 and presented his vision on plant-based materials during Dutch Design Week 2019 and in VPRO’s Tegenlicht broadcast "Houtbouwers" (Wood Builders).
ir. Joyce Langezaal

Joyce Langezaal is trained as an architect at Eindhoven University of Technology. After her studies, she began her career as an exhibition designer at the Netherlands Architecture Institute (now known as Het Nieuwe Instituut), where she worked on numerous exhibitions from 1999 to 2010. Since 2012, Joyce has been associated with Studio Marco Vermeulen, where she develops substantive and spatial concepts. She has been involved in projects such as ‘(Over)Leven in de Biesbosch’ at the Biesbosch MuseumEiland, ‘De Verborgen Vesting’ in Bergen op Zoom, the exhibition 'IABR_Droogte in de Delta', and the floating park and festival center of the Architecture Month in Rotterdam. Joyce excels at bringing together the right team for these types of projects and steering the energy of all parties in the right direction. Currently, she is developing substantive concepts for new exhibitions at a Deltarium and the Biesbosch MuseumEiland, both of which focus on urgent themes such as climate change and the future of living in the Dutch delta.

ir. Wout Kruijer

Wout is a versatile architect with a Master’s degree in Architecture from Delft University of Technology. In addition to his passion for architecture, he has a strong affinity for urbanism and landscape design. Wout excels at translating abstract, large-scale concepts into concrete and practical small-scale solutions. In his work, Wout demonstrates flexibility, easily shifting between different scales and themes. At SMV, he has contributed to iconic projects such as Museum VONK, regional designs like the Water Atlas Nieuwe Maas, land art objects, and design research. As a true team player, he is an excellent listener and collaborator, bringing together ideas and quickly transforming them into clear visual concepts, thanks to his strong visualization skills.

Irem graduated from TOBB University of Technology with a bachelor’s degree in architecture and is currently pursuing a part-time master’s in architecture at Fontys University of Applied Sciences. Irem’s connection to her European, Mediterranean, and Asian roots fuels her passion for embracing cultural diversity. Personally and professionally, she is interested in sustainable, transcultural future scenarios. She dreams of creating social spaces that not only fit into their surroundings but are also adaptable to future challenges. For Irem, it is essential that architecture is not only visually appealing but also has a meaningful and positive impact on the environment and society. She enjoys collaborating with like-minded teammates to develop innovative solutions, particularly by exploring biobased materials. Her strengths lie in creating 2D graphics and 3D modeling, including Building Information Modeling (BIM), allowing her to translate her vision into concrete designs.

ir. Barbara de Meijer

Barbara is trained as an Urban Planner at TU Delft. Additionally, she completed a minor in Sustainable Development at Leiden University and has additional expertise in lighting design. In her graduation project, she explored the role of flax in the circular and bio-based construction sector, gaining practical experience by growing flax herself and collaborating with companies in the flax value chain. Barbara is a versatile designer with a strong focus on the integration of landscape architecture and urban design, seamlessly moving between regional and object-level scales. She combines conceptual insights with practical solutions, striving for a holistic integration of social and ecological dimensions in her designs. Her work is characterized by an approach in which she not only responds to existing challenges but also acts with a future-oriented mindset. Through research and storytelling, she seeks to raise public awareness about urban issues.

Daphne began her studies in Architecture at TU Delft in 2019, where she quickly discovered that her fascination extended beyond just the built environment. She became particularly intrigued by the interaction between built and unbuilt spaces. After earning her Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Daphne decided to follow her passion and enrolled in the Master's program in Landscape Architecture, also at TU Delft. Her interests primarily lie in climate-adaptive design of public green spaces. For Daphne, it is essential that both human and environmental interests are balanced in the design process. Through her work, she aims to contribute to society by helping to build a greener, more sustainable future.
