The first results of last week’s New Town Lab in Curitiba, Brazil are online! An urban strategy was developed for Caximba, an informal settlement in the southern part of the Tatuquara area. It is partly located in the flood zone of two crossing rivers and a protected national park. The “Nova Caximba” strategy focusses on the city’s green borders, and is based on flood management, creating multifunctional hubs for social-cultural exchange at the urban-green borders, and affordable urbanism based on the sites & services model for planning irregular urban developments. The strategy was well-received by IPPUC (Curitiba’s planning department), and is presented on their website (see link below). We look forward to working with IPPUC in the future!
